Thomas Friedman's The World Is Flat discusses how Internet and telephone technology have revolutionized the way we do business. For example, many companies have moved their call center jobs to India, a move that proves the need for centralized corporate offices is becoming nonexistent. Thanks to networks and wireless communications, we no longer really need to commute to one location every day in order to perform our jobs effectively.

More on Call Center Jobs

If you read Friedman’s book, you discover that call center jobs are not only in India, but they are also in Middle America, penitentiaries, and just about any other place where you can find an Internet connection. Thus, if you currently have large blocks of time and want to make extra money on the side, you might consider pursuing one of the many call center jobs out there.

Working from Home

Just imagine working from home a few hours every day to field customer calls, travel arrangements, online orders, or any other type of transaction or correspondence. Such jobs are relatively low-stress and extremely flexible. According to Friedman, this type of telecommuting might be the wave of the future. But before you jump in, you'll need some call center training.

Call Center Training: What Is It?

Call center training is exactly what it sounds like. By earning certification in tech support, customer support, or public relations, you will learn how best to deal with customer issues. And like the job itself, you don't need to leave home to become certified. Many programs are online.

Where to Find Call Center Training

A simple online search of "customer service training" will yield numerous online programs that will prepare you for the jobs of tomorrow. The sooner that you secure the training, the sooner you can turn your free time into real dollars and cents.
